Bikram Karki: First Everest Climber of Makwanpur District – A Legacy of Leadership, Determination & Himalayan Distinction
With the mention of the name Mount Everest, images of awe, adversity, and the indomitable human spirit arise. For Bikram Karki, such a spirit became a tangible reality on the 21st of May, 2022, at 11:22 AM when he stood atop Everest in pride—the first Everest climber of Makwanpur District.

This wasn’t just a triumph for an individual—it was history for his community, his constituency, and Nepal’s next generation of climbers.

Makwanpur Marks Historic First
Bikram Karki’s journey to the top of the world began in the mid-hill landscapes of Makwanpur District, far from the snowfields of Everest but rich with ambition. His Everest summit marked a first in the district’s history, turning him into a local hero and national inspiration.

I wanted to prove that someone from Makwanpur can rise to the highest peak on Earth,” Bikram shares.
“Now, let the children of our district know—they can climb even higher.”

This achievement made Bikram more than a mountain climber. It made him a force for hope for rural Nepal—a powerful model for what courage, ability, and heart can achieve.

Everest and Beyond: The Climber’s Track Record
Bikram Karki is not only the first Makwanpur District Everest summiteer—he is one of Nepal’s most trusted and experienced high-altitude guides. With over 16 years of guiding experience, he has led treks and expeditions through each of the major areas of the Nepal Himalaya.

TOP OF THE WORLD

Other Summits of Note:
Mount Everest (8,848m) – 2 times

Ama Dablam (6,812m) – 5 times

Island Peak (6,189m) – 24 times

Mera Peak (6,476m) – 6 times

Manaslu (8,163m) – 1 time

Climbing Everest wasn’t the finish,” says Bikram.
“It was the beginning of a bigger responsibility—to lead by example and return to where I belong.”

Inspiring the Next Generation of Makwanpur
As the very first Makwanpur District climber to have ascended the peak of Mount Everest, Bikram has been a forceful inspiration to youth all over Nepal. He speaks regularly in schools and at public gatherings, challenging youth to believe in their dreams—to pursue those dreams on the mountains or otherwise.

His story is a proof that excellence can arise from humble beginnings. Anything can be achieved with the right attitude, training, and perseverance, even finding oneself at the top of the world.

Join Bikram on Your Next Adventure
Whether you’re organizing a high-altitude peak climb, an off-the-beaten-track cultural trek, or your first Himalayan experience, Bikram Karki provides the unique experience of an experienced professional—backed by the medal of being Makwanpur District’s first Everest climber.

Discover their triumphs, challenges, and the guidance of professional mountaineer Jan Trávníček in this thrilling adventure.

In an audacious display of skill and determination, Tomáš Zejda and Ondřej Novák, two mountain bike riders from the Czech Republic, etched their names in the record books by conquering the heights of Mera Peak in Nepal. Join us as we delve into the exhilarating details of their remarkable journey, filled with adrenaline, breathtaking landscapes, and moments of triumph.

On June 14, 2023, Zejda and Novák embarked on an unprecedented mission—to ride their mountain bikes down from the summit of Mera Peak, towering at an astounding elevation of 6,417 meters (21,198 feet). The sheer audacity of this feat had never been attempted before, making it an extraordinary and daring adventure.

Descending from such heights brought forth a series of heart-pounding moments for the duo. Narrow paths, measuring a mere 30 centimeters in width, tested their nerves and skills to the limit. Novák recalls the overwhelming fear they faced, highlighting the risks they willingly embraced in pursuit of their passion.

Zejda admits that conquering Mera Peak proved to be the most demanding challenge they had ever encountered. Nevertheless, their determination never wavered. Their hearts filled with adrenaline and excitement, driving them forward. The thrill of the descent, the sense of inner peace, and the indescribable emotions that followed left an indelible mark on their souls.

Zejda and Novák were no strangers to harsh conditions, having previously triumphed over Mount Kilimanjaro. However, Mera Peak presented new obstacles—glacial crevasses and the need to carry their bikes for over a hundred meters. These trials tested their physical and mental fortitude, underscoring the magnitude of their achievement.

The 21-day-long expedition was led by professional mountaineer Jan Trávníček. With his extensive experience and meticulous planning, Trávníček ensured the team’s safety and success. Acclimatization to the high altitude and freezing temperatures played a vital role in their journey, mitigating potential risks and allowing them to push their limits.

The awe-inspiring feat accomplished by Tomáš Zejda and Ondřej Novák, descending Mera Peak on their mountain bikes, sets a new standard for adventure enthusiasts worldwide. Their unwavering determination, fearlessness, and relentless pursuit of their passion have rewritten the limits of human potential.

As we celebrate their remarkable achievement, let us be inspired to conquer our own challenges, embrace the unknown, and push the boundaries of what we believe is possible. The tale of these two riders reminds us that with passion, dedication, and the courage to venture into uncharted territories, we can overcome any obstacle that stands in our way.

Champadevi Camping Trip https://apexhimalaya.com/champadevi-camping/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=rss&utm_campaign=champadevi-camping https://apexhimalaya.com/champadevi-camping/#respond Fri, 09 Jun 2023 07:38:25 +0000 https://apexhimalaya.com/?p=1605 Time to get away from busy streets and back to nature with 2 Days camping trip with our Apex Himalaya Colleagues. An amazing camping trip to Dallu, Pharping followed by hiking to Champadevi would be great short hike trip to refresh your weekend.
Champadevi Hill lies in the southeast part of Kathmandu valley at the elevation of 2278 m. The hiking trails are well managed and maintained so it will be easy to walk and find route. We can capture mesmerizing view from the top of Champadevi of different mountains such as Mt Everest, Mt Annapurna, Ganesh Himal, Langtang, Gauri Shankar, and more. Besides mountain, one can enjoy wide angle view of Kathmandu valley. Pharping village, Chandragiri hill, Phulchoki hill, Bhasmasur Danda can also be seen from top.
Note: Please collect the waste and dispose properly before leaving the site.

Route to camping destination

Champadevi trail is perfect place for day hike; with camping a day before is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts and nature lover. Midday or early start from Kathmandu to Hattiban a day before hike takes one hour ride to the destination. Riding motorbikes, cycling or driving in car would be the best option to travel to our destination. The destination is approximately 20 KM drive from Kathmandu by motorbike or by car. One can get sufficient parking area near Hattiban resort area or you can park near your campsite. You can get enough camping spots where you can set up your tent and other necessary supplies. We can easily collect firewood for camping fire inside jungle. (Make sure you would not harm protected trees and animals nearby). Be aware with snakes and venomous animals that can be sometimes seen in those area. Once you set up your camp site safely, you can start your food making process while enjoying on your hammock time to time. There is no portable water nearby that area. So make sure to bring enough water jar for your camp. Music in the middle of jungle would be great relief and soothing (trust me on that). Playing games and enjoying nature would be great outdoors excitement during camping. Enjoying your night inside tent would be great experience after your long spends time inside your house.
